The Minister of Linguistic Policy, Francesc Xavier Vila, visited the municipality of Tàrrega today to lead a Catalan Government event titled "Two Years Building the Future. With Language: From Commitment to Action". The meeting, held at the Germanes Güell Library, brought together mayors, councilors, and other authorities from the Urgell region, detailing initiatives promoted for the defense and promotion of the Catalan language. The campaign video "The Future is Here" was also presented.
Previously, the minister was received at the Town Hall by the mayoress Rosa Maria Perelló, accompanied by councilors from all municipal groups. In the Plenary Hall, Francesc Xavier Vila signed the Book of Honor, stating, "Language is the backbone of the nation and the primary tool for shaping a society. All public powers and civil society must unite to ensure that all new Catalans fully embrace the knowledge, use, and adherence to the language." Also attending were Jordi Suïls, director of the Territorial Services of Linguistic Policy, and Balbina Escolà, director of the Consortium for Linguistic Normalization of Lleida.
In a subsequent working meeting, the Tàrrega City Council explained to the minister the guidelines of the recently created Department of Language, managed by councilor Miquel Nadal. The presentation of the Local Assembly for the Catalan Language of Tàrrega was highlighted; this participatory platform, formed by the council and seven local entities, will design policies to promote the Catalan language in Tàrrega.
