The Teatre Ateneu hosted the 19th edition of this musical event last Sunday, filling up completely for an afternoon of classical and Christmas music. The event pays tribute to local musician Àngel Sans, who was the driving force behind the concert from its inception in 2008 until his death in 2021.
The performance featured the voices of the Polifònica de l’Urgell and the Cor de Cambra Arsinova from Barcelona, accompanied by the Orquestra Simfònica Gratia Artis. The musical direction was led, for the second consecutive year, by Salvador Brotons.
The 19th edition of the concert included a special tribute to the cellist Pau Casals, performing El cant dels ocells (The Song of the Birds) as part of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
The program was varied, including waltz pieces such as The Blue Danube by Strauss and the Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Tchaikovsky. The operatic aria section featured scores by great composers including Mozart, Verdi, Rossini, Puccini, and Donizetti.
Soloists Laura del Río (soprano), Joan Garcia (baritone), and Ionas Mercadal (clarinetist) also participated. The scenic part was completed by the Estudi Dansa Tàrrega, celebrating its tenth anniversary, with choreographies directed by Mercè Freixas.
