The Department of Social Action of the Tàrrega City Council will implement the new project ‘Connecta en gran’, designed to bring municipal information closer to seniors and overcome difficulties with digital tools. This initiative coincides with the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1st.
The project uses Bleta, an Android application adapted to the needs of seniors. The tool simplifies mobile phone usage, allowing users to receive municipal notices, reminders, and information in a clear format with large, easy-to-understand icons.
The Councillor for Social Action, Marta Torre, highlighted the project's opportunity to reduce the digital divide and create a direct information channel for seniors. She added that ‘Connecta en gran’ has already been successful in other Catalan municipalities.
The application includes the ‘Espai +60’ (Space +60), where relevant activities, services, and resources for Tàrrega's seniors will be centralized. There will also be a direct access ‘TRRG - Tarrega’ to complement the existing municipal communication channels, especially for users who find it more difficult to consult websites or social media.
Prior to this, information sessions were held for a pilot group of 25 people at the Social Action Office. These sessions served to test the tool, resolve doubts, and gather initial impressions before gradually extending its use to all seniors in the municipality in the coming weeks.
More sessions will be convened to detail the application's functionality, assist with installation, and guide users through the initial steps, ensuring simple usage and quick familiarization.
