The city of Tàrrega has kicked off the Correllengua celebration, an initiative promoting the use of Catalan through culture and citizen participation, this year dedicated to the writer Josep Maria Espinàs.

The program will run from Wednesday, October 28th, to Sunday, December 6th, featuring a diverse range of activities including talks, theatre, concerts, and the traditional Castanyada festival on Friday, October 31st. This edition pays tribute to Josep Maria Espinàs, an author recognized with awards such as the Premi d’Honor de les Lletres Catalanes.
The Councillor for Culture and Language, Miquel Nadal, emphasized the aim for Correllengua and Castanyada to be inclusive events for all audiences. He highlighted Catalan as an "integration and social cohesion tool" that facilitates everyone's participation in the city, and reaffirmed the department's commitment to maintaining Tàrrega as a "culturally active, welcoming, and Catalan language-committed" city.
The inaugural day, Wednesday, October 28th, at the Teatre Ateneu, featured the theatrical performance ‘Perdó’ for 3rd ESO students, followed by a talk with the creators of SOS Català to reflect on the language's current situation.
The highlight of the celebration will be on Saturday, October 31st. At 11:30 AM, the plaça de les Nacions Sense Estat will host a vermouth and concert with "Pork Chop Boys" and giant games. In the afternoon, at 6:30 PM, the plaça del Carme will be the meeting point for the lighting of the language flame, the reading of the Manifesto, chestnut stalls, children's entertainment, and the BAT devils' drumming. The evening will culminate at the Espai MerCAT with a popular dinner and concerts.
Concurrently, on Friday, October 30th, and Saturday, October 31st, the ‘Carreró de la por’ (Street of Fear) will take place in the plaça de les Nacions Sense Estat, organized by Lo Groguet de Tàrrega and Guixanet Tàrrega.
The Biblioteca Germanes-Güell will be a key venue. On Saturday, November 21st, it will host the Story Time with Cia. Umpalumpa. The tribute to Josep Maria Espinàs will take place on Thursday, December 3rd, with a talk-dialogue at the library, and throughout the week from November 30th to December 6th, a display of the author's books will be featured.
