The El Bategar de Targa show, created last year to bring popular culture and fire to adolescent and family audiences, will be the setting for the premiere of lo Pedrafoc. This new festive figure, to be presented on Friday, May 15, represents one of the most anticipated moments for the Diables Targalots and the Guixanet association.
Lo Pedrafoc is the result of a collective dream that has grown over the years within Guixanet's youth group. Many of its members started in popular culture at a very young age with the Targalets, becoming part of the first generation of a project that has constantly evolved. After the incorporation of the drum and the Targafera, the longing to have their own dragon becomes a reality after four years.
The new beast recovers Tàrrega's festive and patrimonial memory, drawing inspiration from a dragon documented in the city since 1610. The figure, which features two heads —one of them with a dove in its mouth in homage to the historic dragon—, incorporates sculptural and architectural elements of local heritage, thus connecting the past with the future of festive tradition.
“"The lo Pedrafoc project is also born with the desire to create bonds and encourage the participation of young people in popular culture."
The cultural association Guixanet has expressed its gratitude to the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Agrupació del Bestiari Festiu i Popular de Catalunya for their support and trust in this project. This collaboration has allowed for the continued expansion and enrichment of Tàrrega's festive and cultural heritage. After four years of waiting, the dragon will cease to be a dream and become a tangible reality, allowing Tàrrega to once again feel the heartbeat of its history.
