The monument dedicated to former Generalitat President Lluís Companys, located in his birthplace, El Tarròs (Tornabous), has once again been targeted by vandalism in recent hours.

The vandalism consisted of painting the word “asesino” (murderer) on the plaque explaining the biography of the man who served as president of the Generalitat de Catalunya between 1934 and 1940.

"It is very sad that there are people who despise him and accuse him of being a murderer, when he saved the lives of thousands of people."

David Vilaró · Mayor of Tornabous
The mayor of Tornabous, David Vilaró, strongly condemned the events and attributed the action to “Spanish far-right, fascist groups from the area who maintain an alternative historical narrative”. Vilaró confirmed that the municipal brigade will clean the graffiti in the coming hours.
The mayor recalled that Lluís Companys is the only democratically elected president who was executed by firing squad and lamented the disrespect shown by the attack. The town hall maintains the Espai Lluís Companys, located next to the monument, open to preserve and disseminate the memory of the republican president, a site that has suffered repeated vandalism in recent years.
