Students from the Feixes and Creixen schools, with the support of the Observatori dels Drets Socials de Terrassa, intervened at the Municipal Plenary on May 29 to address human rights violations in the city from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The students presented various proposals to improve aspects such as poverty, ease of administrative procedures, access to healthy food, and equal opportunities.
From the Feixes school, it was suggested that the City Council offer "more direct and personalized" support to individuals needing assistance with administrative procedures, such as applications for aid or scholarships, to ensure that "no one is excluded due to lack of resources or knowledge".
Emphasis was also placed on the need to combat hunger and improve nutrition. The students proposed that the council pressure the Spanish Government to reduce VAT on healthy foods and to reclaim unused municipal agricultural land for local production of proximity foods.
Furthermore, the school reflected on the importance of inclusive and equitable education. Proposals included ensuring sufficient support staff and professionals, reviewing anti-bullying protocols, and improving the maintenance of school facilities to ensure a truly inclusive environment.
Students from the Creixen school focused their intervention on the "general improvement" of the Parc del Nord, highlighting its importance as a "significant green area of Terrassa" for citizen well-being. They called for a "dignified, sustainable, clean, and inclusive" future for the park.
Among their demands for the Parc del Nord are the expansion of the children's play area, the installation of adapted play equipment for children with different abilities, improvements to paths and ramps for accessible mobility, and enhanced lighting to increase park safety.
The students criticized the poor condition of the park's ground, which often hinders pedestrians and poses a safety risk, particularly for people with reduced mobility.
