The Vacarisses City Council announced on Sunday evening the temporary closure of its municipal pool due to the detection of “fecal contamination”. The measure, motivated by sanitary reasons, means the sports and leisure facility will remain closed all day Monday, August 3rd. The cleaning, disinfection, and water quality control protocol has been activated to ensure user safety.
This act of vandalism has prevented the residents of Vacarisses from enjoying the pool during a heatwave. The council regrets that this practice harms other users and incurs additional costs for municipal funds.
A few kilometers away, in Olesa de Montserrat, the main municipal pool was also forced to close on Saturday, August 1st, due to the discovery of fecal matter. The pool was immediately evacuated, and the corresponding protocol was activated. Consequently, on Sunday, only the small pool and the lawn area could be used.
The council of Olesa de Montserrat has condemned this act of vandalism, which interrupts service and incurs significant costs in time and public resources. The council has announced that it will investigate the facts to identify those responsible and take appropriate measures.
This summer has seen a resurgence of this "trend" of throwing feces into public pools, affecting several municipalities and depriving citizens of a place to cool off, in addition to generating unforeseen costs for cleaning and disinfection.
