The city of Terrassa is launching 'Active Summer', a community initiative designed to provide activities and meeting spaces for the elderly during the summer months. This program, driven by Red Cross Terrassa in collaboration with the City Council, civic facilities, and social entities, is part of the 'Always Accompanied' project and receives support from the La Caixa Foundation.
The main objective is to promote physical and emotional well-being, foster social relationships, and create comfortable environments against high temperatures. Beyond serving as climate shelters, the spaces aim to generate meaningful connections and alleviate the feeling of loneliness that can arise during summer when routines change and the risk of isolation increases. The program is aimed at individuals over 60 residing in districts 1 and 4 of the city.
The schedule includes a variety of activities such as cognitive stimulation workshops, physical, emotional, and creative activities. These proposals are designed to adapt to the different needs and interests of participants, offering accessible and enriching alternatives in safe spaces during periods of intense heat.
“"All this with the aim of offering accessible and enriching alternatives in safe and pleasant spaces during episodes of intense heat. Active Summer exemplifies community and network work in Terrassa, with a clear commitment to a more caring, inclusive city engaged in active aging."
