The Vapor Badia Library in Sabadell will undergo renovations to include a 24-hour study room, with a budget exceeding 588,000 euros and works scheduled until May 2027.

The Vapor Badia Library, one of Sabadell's main library facilities, will be expanded to include a study room that will remain open 24 hours a day. This renovation aims to adapt to users' evolving needs, increase study spaces, and improve overall accessibility.
The construction project, with a budget of just over 588,000 euros, is set to begin at the end of the year and is expected to be completed around May 2027. The renovation will primarily focus on the building's ground floor. While there will be localized, temporary disruptions, a complete closure of the library is not anticipated.
The most significant addition will be a new self-managed study area spanning 223 square meters, located where the cafe and the main facade's porch previously stood. This new space will provide an additional 98 study spots. The porch area, which has faced complaints regarding surrounding incivility, will be integrated into the library and will feature direct street access, extending its usability beyond the facility's regular operating hours.
The new overnight study room will operate using an automated access system via library cards, digital registration, security cameras, and control turnstiles, allowing users to enter and exit autonomously. This system addresses the growing demand for workspaces outside conventional hours, particularly among students. The cameras will be directly linked to the Municipal Police's central control room for prompt intervention if necessary.
The renovation also involves reorganizing the main entrance, relocating information and reception desks to the lobby to streamline entry and enhance access control. Additionally, new office spaces for library staff will be created. Historically, municipal libraries have only offered late-night study rooms during specific exam periods.
Another key feature of the project is the construction of Sabadell's first inclusive changing room, an 18-square-meter space designed for the elderly or individuals with complex care needs, offering ample room for both users and their assistants. Concurrently, new accessible restrooms will be built in the children's area.
