Dedication to the community has marked the life journey of Maria Cruells, a resident of Sabadell since she was 30 and originally from Sentmenat. Her involvement stems from extensive management experience, which began at a young age in a textile company. "I worked from the age of 13 in a fabric factory, but almost by accident, I became the manager a few years later. Since then, I've realized I enjoy managing matters and have always been involved," Cruells explains.
After a decade in Sentmenat, she moved to Sabadell, where she dedicated time to her family. Later, between the ages of 40 and 60, she cared for children in numerous families. Since her retirement at 60, her energy has been channeled into volunteering, a passion that keeps her constantly busy. "I haven't had time for many years. My husband used to tell me he was alone at home every afternoon, but this is what I enjoyed doing, and I haven't stopped since," she comments.
Cruells has been a key figure in various local initiatives. She was instrumental in opening the Olimpia swimming pool, a driving force behind the community center in the Concordia neighborhood (inaugurated in 2002), and actively participated in the neighborhood association. She also organized numerous trips for community center members to countries like Russia, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic, experiences she cherishes as "a unique memory".
Currently, she is part of the Sabadell Senior Council, from where she continues to promote activities and outings. Although she no longer organizes trips abroad, she maintains "untouched energy" at 85, demonstrated by her regular swimming. "Elderly people have many stories to tell, and they shouldn't be lost!" she concludes enthusiastically.
