Josep Rull and Jordi Turull, key Junts figures, are backing Toni Borrull's candidacy in Matadepera, seeking to reunify the post-convergent political movement in the town.

In Matadepera, the name Borrull joins the political wordplay with figures like Josep Rull and Jordi Turull, Junts' strongmen. Rull, President of the Parliament, and Turull, the party's Secretary General, have played a crucial role in reunifying the post-convergent political space in this Valles town, where Junts aims to reclaim the mayoralty after losing it in the previous elections. Toni Borrull is now the chosen candidate to lead this new phase.
Junts' internal division in 2023 led to the founding of a new party, Suma't Matadepera, by the then-mayor, Nil López. This split, linked to Ara Pacte Local, prevented Junts and Suma't from forming an absolute majority despite their combined strength. The situation resulted in the independent party Som-hi Matadepera winning, with ERC's support, and securing the mayoralty.
Having learned from the experience, Junts and Suma't agreed last July to join forces for the municipal elections. The agreement, formalized at an event attended by Rull and Turull, highlighted the strategic importance of reconciliation. "We could have saved ourselves this event and the separation," reflected Rull, expressing confidence in the new unified party's victory.
Although Nil López was initially suggested as the leader of the unified list, Toni Borrull has ultimately been chosen unanimously. According to Borrull, López decided not to lead the candidacy due to work commitments and the belief that new faces were needed. Borrull, a resident of Matadepera since 2002 with a solid professional background, admits he did not expect to be the candidate, having never been in frontline politics.
The reunification has been a complex process, marked by previous tensions. However, according to sources from both groups, the town's well-being has been prioritized, and egos have been set aside. Individuals who disrupted the previous relationship are no longer part of the project. Borrull emphasizes the decisive role of Turull and Rull in this reconciliation process, announcing their participation in his candidacy presentation event on June 18th.
