Data from SMATSA, the cleaning concessionaire, reveals that 93,429 services corresponded to bulky items deposited without following protocol, while only 12,756 were previously scheduled collections. This represents 88% of operations due to abandonment.
The Sabadell City Council reminds citizens of the importance of not leaving furniture and other bulky waste next to the bins. The city has two Blue Points, one in Parc Central (carrer de Moragas i Barret, 33) and another in Can Llong (ronda d’Europa, 310), open Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 9 am to 2:30 pm.
Furthermore, the council offers a free municipal collection service for individuals. To use it, residents must contact the City Council (900 222 234) to arrange the day and drop-off point for the items.
To encourage the correct use of services, discounts are applied to the waste tax. Residents can receive a 5% discount if they use the furniture collection service at least twice in different months, a 10% discount for four to eight uses, and up to a 20% discount for nine or more occasions annually. These discounts are applied automatically.
The council has intensified civility campaigns and control of these uncivil acts. Abandoning rubbish or furniture on public streets can incur financial penalties which, according to municipal sources, can reach up to 4,000 euros for serious improper dumping. Recently, a resident from La Plana del Pintor faces a 600 euro fine for illegally dumping waste.
