This quantity of recovered textile in Sabadell, equivalent to about 230 tons, comes from the 80 collection bins managed by the entity Formació i Treball throughout the city. The figure marks a notable success, as it's the first time the organization has exceeded 4,000 tons of clothing collected statewide in the first semester, reaching a total of 4,041 tons. This represents a 10.7% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 3,649 tons were collected, setting the best result in the last five years.
Once the clothing arrives at Formació i Treball's facilities, a sorting process begins. The priority is to give a second life to garments in good condition through reuse or commercialization. Items that can no longer be used are directed to various recycling processes. In total, the entity has managed 15,036 tons of textile inputs during this first semester, including material from its own bins, partner cooperatives, and donations of new clothing.
These figures emerge at a crucial time for the textile sector, marked by the implementation of separate collection for textile waste in municipalities. The main challenge is not only to increase the quantity collected but also to find the most suitable destination for each item and minimize final waste. The model of Formació i Treball incorporates a social dimension, creating employment opportunities for individuals in vulnerable situations, thus combining waste reduction with labor insertion.
