The Generalitat Government opened a tender this Friday to build 1,940 affordable rental homes across Catalonia, with Terrassa playing a key role by providing four plots for approximately one hundred flats.

The capital of Vallès Occidental is among the 23 Catalan localities participating in this “first wave” of the plan. Terrassa stands out for the volume of land mobilized, matching only Figueres with four plots, and surpassing other cities such as Sant Adrià del Besòs or Tarragona.
The four ceded municipal plots are located at Gasòmetre 7, Viveret 93, Lepant 133, and Marinel·lo Bosch 94 streets. These currently unused lands were approved for cession by the December Municipal Plenary to promote the construction of just over 100 protected official housing (HPO) units.

"This tender is a historic step, as it is the first time in the State that a stable mechanism has been activated to mobilize public land on a large scale."

The tender seeks companies that guarantee the affordable rent of the properties for a period of 75 years. The successful bidders will be responsible for the promotion, construction, management of rental contracts, and maintenance during these seven and a half decades, after which the building will revert to the administration.
Regarding deadlines, developers will have two months to submit the preliminary project to the Terrassa City Council and nine months to apply for the building license. Construction must begin within six months, and the buildings must be fully completed and definitively qualified within a maximum period of five years.
