Terrassa City Council has focused on public space management during night hours, particularly concerning alcohol consumption. This Friday, June 26th, an information and awareness campaign concluded after visiting 85 commercial establishments in the city. The primary objective is to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages late at night, a practice that typically increases with the arrival of the Festa Major and after the Sant Joan festivities.
The initiative, part of the municipal campaign "Cuidem de nit" (We Care at Night), reminds businesses of the need to strictly comply with the new Terrassa Ordinance on the Bases of Democratic Coexistence, approved in March 2026. This regulation explicitly prohibits the sale of alcohol in retail stores between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM. Establishments that violate this rule face fines that can reach up to 3,000 euros.
Over the past week, a team of two individuals has patrolled the streets of Terrassa, informing businesses considered vulnerable or likely to engage in late-night alcohol sales. This outreach staff has distributed explanatory materials and addressed shopkeepers' queries to ensure they are aware of the regulations and to prevent claims of ignorance in case of a police inspection.
The Health Department emphasizes that the measure extends beyond mere punitive pressure, addressing public health and citizen coexistence. The council seeks the active collaboration of shopkeepers as key prevention agents, particularly to safeguard minors and young people from the risks associated with excessive public alcohol consumption.
