Electoral strategies in Matadepera are beginning to shift ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. Following the current mayor, Guillem Montagut, announcing his intention to seek re-election, business manager Toni Borrull has emerged as a new mayoral candidate. Borrull, who does not belong to a traditional political party, aims to represent a renewal and rebuild bridges with the various factions within the council.
"Tension sometimes arises from misunderstandings, confrontations, from not saying things, or sometimes not having the courage to face it personally day-to-day and instead doing it in different spaces," stated Toni Borrull to MónTerrassa. "But I believe that now is the time to lower this aggressiveness a bit and be able to build a joint project together," he added, setting a new tone for the approaching campaign.
The primary objective of the candidacy led by Borrull is for "Matadepera to improve." "When you are in opposition, it is evident that you have to talk about those things you believe are not going so well. And, at times, perhaps the tone is not the most pleasant the opponent would like to hear, but that is what happens," he admitted. "I believe that with us, we must all seek common objectives. And when I say all, I mean all political forces. And we must find a way to do the best for Matadepera, because otherwise, there is no point in criticizing or pressuring everyone so much, as you achieve nothing," considered the candidate, who has never directly been a member of a political party and personally knows Mayor Montagut.
Regarding potential post-election alliances, Borrull is open to exploring options: "If everything that signifies achieving this common objective for Matadepera is met, you don't have to eliminate any option along the way." He highlighted his "great relationship" with Guillem Montagut and acknowledged that the mayor has done "what he believed was correct for the municipality." Borrull, who has participated in elections for the Catalan Tennis Federation, considers himself "very new" to politics but is confident in contributing his experience.
The unification of the parties Junts and Suma’t Matadepera, previously led by Nil López, was an agreement reached a year ago. Borrull was chosen as a consensus figure to lead the new candidacy, which seeks to incorporate new faces and young people eager to work for the municipality. The lists are expected to begin taking shape in September.
On the electoral program, Borrull admits that "Matadepera, like all municipalities, has significant room for improvement in many areas." The emergence of Aliança Catalana at the municipal level is also anticipated as a factor that could influence the outcome, although Borrull insists on focusing on "the municipality" above "grand ideological focuses."
Toni Borrull, currently a commercial manager at Manufactures Nylma, has assured that he can balance his job with his dedication to the City Council. His experience in tennis, theater, and singing are aspects he believes provide him with the necessary "maturity" to assume political responsibility.
For their part, ERC councilor Anna Piñol has indicated that the decision regarding her potential re-election will be made at an assembly in the autumn. Meanwhile, the future of the two non-attached councilors from Junts, Dolors Martí and Núria Garcia, remains to be defined.
