In the Les Torres neighborhood of Rubí, young people are currently involved in the Contraplà: cinema for social transformation initiative. This project invites youth to express their vision of their environment through audiovisual creation, culminating in the collective production of a short film reflecting their perspective on the neighborhood and community.
The Contraplà project, driven by the Diputació de Barcelona and the Xarxa Audiovisual Local (XAL), is simultaneously taking place in Gavà, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Mollet del Vallès, Viladecans, and Vilanova i la Geltrú, involving a total of about sixty children and adolescents.
In Rubí, activities are held at the Les Torres community space every Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 PM to 7 PM. Participants will work through the various stages of the audiovisual creation process, deciding what they want to convey and how, based on their experiences and views of their surroundings. Cinema thus becomes a vehicle for expression, participation, and building a personal perspective on the neighborhood.
The aim of Contraplà is to generate new narratives about the participating neighborhoods, highlighting their diversity and potential. It also seeks to guarantee the cultural rights of children and adolescents, strengthen community ties, and foster active and critical citizenship.
As a result of the project, six short films will be created, one for each participating municipality. These works will be available on local television channels and the La Xarxa+ platform, and will be presented at various events in the involved municipalities. Additionally, the films will be screened at film festivals such as L’Alternativa, D’A - Barcelona Film Festival, La GRAN pantalla, El Meu Primer Festival, Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona, and Festival Reteena.
Contraplà is part of the Neighborhoods and Communities: engines of social transformation project, promoted by the Diputació de Barcelona to reduce inequalities and promote social cohesion, combining cultural rights, social promotion, and audiovisual creation to achieve a socio-educational, community, and territorial impact.
