Construction work on the 36 officially protected rental homes at Mas Duran IV, located at Carrer de Clementina Arderiu, 8, is progressing as planned. This development represents a further step in the municipal policies to facilitate housing access in Sant Quirze del Vallès.
The Mayor of Sant Quirze del Vallès, Elisabeth Oliveras, accompanied by the Councillor for Housing, Marta Baldrich, the manager of COMU, Anna Vivas i Barnola, the director of Fundació SALAS, Clara Muñoz, and the president of Fundació Nou Lloc, Pere Esteve, along with representatives from the Arauca cooperative, visited the construction site to observe the progress of the work.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of public administrations in guaranteeing the right to housing, stating that "housing cannot be a business or a privilege for a few; it must be a guaranteed right." She highlighted the City Council's responsibility to promote policies to expand the affordable housing stock and preserve public assets. Oliveras announced that new affordable housing project is already underway on Avinguda d’Egara.
The project is a collaboration between the municipal company COMU and the Arauca cooperative, a non-profit social housing developer, through a 75-year surface right agreement. Fundació Nou Lloc will manage the homes once construction is completed.
The Mas Duran development will consist of 36 homes with two and three bedrooms, ranging from 49.90 to 72 m², featuring open kitchens and balconies. It will also include parking spaces and storage rooms. The building will have an energy efficiency rating of AA, incorporating systems such as aerothermal heating and cooling, centralized photovoltaic panels, and domestic hot water tanks.
To apply for one of the homes, interested individuals must be registered in the Official Protected Housing Applicants Registry of Catalonia. The allocation criteria are expected to be published between December 2026 and January 2027, and the development has received a subsidy from the Agència de l’Habitatge de Catalunya.
