Yesterday, Thursday, October 1st, the Les Fonts neighborhood kicked off four days of celebration with the inauguration of exhibitions at the Torre Julià Civic Center and the traditional festival proclamation. This year, the proclamation was delivered by David Caballero Alonso, known as “Dez”.
The inaugural event included a welcome from the mayor, Elisabeth Oliveras, and the presentation of patchwork, crochet, wool, and lace-making exhibitions. These displays, resulting from the work done in the workshops of various neighborhood associations such as APV Les Fonts, Les Fonts Abriga, and El Racó de la Dona, highlight local creativity. Representatives from these entities, Mercè Martí, Pili Márquez, and Toñi Tàpia, also participated in the event.
Subsequently, David Caballero Alonso, a UX designer, musician, and neighborhood resident, delivered the proclamation. Caballero, who grew up in Les Fonts and has been the singer and guitarist of the band The Fox 196 since 2009, as well as promoting the LeReyerté Fest festival, reviewed the neighborhood's evolution since his childhood, linking it to community life and participation.
The opening day concluded with the performance of the play Sala d’espera, by the company Apedaçats, at the same Torre Julià Civic Center.
The festival continues throughout the weekend with a diverse program. Friday includes the inauguration of the exhibition Pintors i pintores de Les Fonts al llarg del temps, a chocolate tasting, a skate workshop, sports activities, and the Correfoc (fire run) by the Diables de Sant Quirze. The night will be enlivened by La Nit Vibra. Fontfest, featuring local DJs.
Saturday will be an intense day with the Lace Makers' Gathering, the Les Fonts Abriga Gathering, traditional games, activities at Can Falguera, the family race El barri corre, the Tarda Canalla (Children's Afternoon), an outdoor dinner, and La Nit de Festa Major (Festival Night) with karaoke and a performance by Toni Torres.
Sunday will see tradition take center stage with the Artisans and Second-hand Fair, the parade of the Colla Gegantera de Les Fonts (Giant's Group), the Festival Mass, a batukada (percussion ensemble), a paella demonstration and tasting, and in the afternoon, El Tardeig de Festa Major. The celebration will conclude at 8:45 PM at the Pont Nou with a fireworks display.
Given the forecast of heavy rain and meteorological instability, the Sant Quirze del Vallès City Council intends to proceed with the planned activities whenever possible. In case of heavy rain, activities, including parades, fire runs, and races, may be delayed or suspended, with an assessment of road conditions. Activities at the multi-sport court will proceed as scheduled.
The City Council urges citizens to stay informed about the weather developments and exercise extreme caution. Any changes to the program will be communicated through municipal channels. In case of emergency, contact the Local Police (93 721 68 68) or 112.
