The city of Terrassa and 20 other municipalities are joining T-Social, the new physical contactless card set to unify social transport passes starting in the first quarter of 2027.

This new travel support, presented in Granollers on January 14, unifies the social fare technology of 21 municipalities in the Barcelona regions, including Terrassa, Rubí, and the two Vallès capitals. The Association of Municipalities for Mobility and Urban Transport (AMTU) aims to definitively eliminate the magnetic stripe ticket system, integrating it into the contactless technology used by T-Mobilitat.

"The T-social will have a notable impact on the daily lives of citizens."

Susi López · Director General of Transport and Mobility of the Generalitat de Catalunya
The Director General of Transport and Mobility of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Susi López, highlighted that AMTU has created “common criteria that have allowed the unification of the specific protocols that previously governed the social passes of each municipality.” This technological leap fully integrates social passes (intended for the elderly, people with disabilities, and the unemployed) into the T-mobilitat ecosystem.
The new physical PVC support will have a five-year warranty and will be replaced free of charge if it fails. Furthermore, to promote inclusion, the system includes the creation of an accompanying pass, allowing one person to travel for free with the beneficiary. Distribution of the first cards is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2026, with full implementation anticipated in the first quarter of 2027.

"This project puts technology at the service of people and represents a step forward in the modernization of public management."

Mar Molina · President of AMTU
Beyond users, the T-Social will benefit local councils, as they will have access to real demand data. This will allow them to “better adjust urban bus lines and schedules,” in addition to simplifying administrative procedures through automatic pass renewal and speeding up the recovery processes for lost cards, as explained by Mayte Capdet, AMTU's economic and financial officer.
