The Sala dels Cups d’El Castell hosted the public presentation of the Vacarisses Language Pact on Saturday. The main objective is to promote the habitual and shared use of Catalan in the municipality, considering it a tool for social inclusion and cohesion. The proposal aims to organize municipal language policies, identify areas for action, and establish concrete actions with objectives and indicators for monitoring.
A preliminary diagnosis has revealed that Vacarisses starts from a favorable environmental linguistic situation, with a high percentage of the population understanding and speaking Catalan according to 2011 data. However, the diagnosis also points out challenges, such as the percentage of Catalan as a mother tongue in Vallès Occidental (21.8% in 2023), lower than the Catalan average (29%). Areas such as commerce, education, sports, and the municipal staff have been analyzed to specify the actions.

Journalist Ona Falcó highlighted during the presentation that 93.4% of Catalonia's population aged 15 and over understands Catalan, according to the 2025 Linguistic Uses Survey. Faced with a perception of decline, she championed this data as positive. In a conversation with Mayor Antoni Masana Ubach, the language shift among young people and the importance of linguistic assertiveness were discussed. Falcó proposed maintaining the language, consuming culture in Catalan, and purchasing Catalan products.
The Pact is structured into 7 strategic areas, 22 objectives, and 70 actions. These include guaranteeing linguistic rights, strengthening training, incorporating municipal linguistic criteria, promoting language use in commerce and businesses, supporting culture, reinforcing its use in educational centers and leisure/sports spaces, and boosting digital consumption and linguistic rights in health and care for people with functional diversity.
The presented document is open to contributions from citizens, entities, shops, and businesses through the platform [Participa 311](https://participa311-vacarisses.diba.cat/processes/pacteperlallengua). The aim is to contrast the proposal, incorporate suggestions, and ensure the Pact considers all aspects of life in Vacarisses. Indicators and a monitoring committee will be established to assess the progress of the actions.
