From September 30 to October 4, Mollet del Vallès will host the 11th Sona Mollet International Music Festival. The event, organized by the City Council, solidifies its position as a benchmark cultural event in the city, offering a quality program featuring jazz, piano, symphonic music, and chamber music, with the participation of young talents and renowned performers.
The festival will kick off with the Maria Canals Porta Cua initiative, which will set up a grand piano in Plaça Catalunya for the public to play freely. The opening day will conclude with a recital by young pianist Guillem León. The program will continue with a concert by the Mollet Jazz Band, a formation from the Municipal School of Music and Dance of Mollet, and a performance by the Paula Bilá Quintet, one of the most interesting emerging acts in the current jazz scene.
The weekend will concentrate some of the festival's most notable performances. On Saturday, the Teatre de Can Gomà will host a concert by the Arts Simfònica Jove, an orchestra of over sixty young musicians from Catalonia, conducted by Josep Maria Sauret, with pianist Daria Piltyay as the guest soloist. The festival will close on Sunday with Bon Voyage!, a show by the Orquesta Orthemis, which combines music, theater, and humor.
The mayor of Mollet del Vallès, Mireia Dionisio Calé, highlighted that "SONA Mollet has established itself as an essential cultural event, a festival that combines artistic excellence, promotion of emerging talent, and social commitment. It is a pride to see how music also becomes a tool for solidarity and citizen participation".
The Councilor for Culture, Mercè Pérez Piedrafita, emphasized that "the program for this eleventh edition perfectly reflects the essence of SONA Mollet, combining major ensembles, young talents, innovative proposals, and activities open to all citizens. We want the festival to continue being a meeting point for music, culture, and values".
The Sona Mollet also maintains its solidarity aspect. The profits from ticket sales will be entirely donated to the Josep Carreras Foundation against leukemia.
Tickets for the concerts on October 2, 3, and 4 can be purchased in advance starting Thursday, September 17, at 3:30 PM, at the Centre Cultural La Marineta (pl. Església, 7) and through the platform molletvalles.koobin.com.
Sona Mollet was born in 2016, promoted by the City Council of Mollet del Vallès in memory of the young Mollet pianist Anna Villaescusa Rebull.
