La Garriga has launched the first Mathematical Route in Vallès Oriental, a project combining heritage, education, and tourism through mathematical challenges linked to the town's modernist architecture. The presentation took place this Friday, as part of the Modernist Days.
The event was led by the president of the Consell Comarcal, Emilio Cordero, and the mayor of La Garriga, Meritxell Budó. Representatives from the Federació d’Entitats per a l’Ensenyament de les Matemàtiques de Catalunya, responsible for creating the route, also participated, along with the Councillor for Tourism of the Consell Comarcal, Àlex Valiente, and the Councillor for Commerce, Tourism, and Heritage of La Garriga, Carol Espada.
This route is the first of its kind in Vallès Oriental and the second promoted by the Federation, following the one in Montserrat. The objective is to promote sustainable, educational, and cultural tourism that fosters critical thinking and encourages discovering the territory from a new perspective.
The route, designed for families, friends, or school groups, presents mathematical challenges linked to the modernist heritage and architectural elements of La Garriga. Its self-guided format allows participants to adapt the pace and interests of each group, with challenges solvable individually or collaboratively.
Emilio Cordero highlighted the initiative's ability to combine heritage, culture, and learning, expressing a desire to extend the project to other municipalities in the region. Meanwhile, Meritxell Budó emphasized the project's educational value in making mathematics accessible to children and young people in a practical way, linked to local heritage.
Carme Aymerich, a representative of the Federació d’Entitats per a l’Ensenyament de les Matemàtiques, praised the initiative's outreach mission, aiming to bring mathematical content to the general public through an experience connected to the territory and its heritage.
