The guide offers recommendations on how to document damages, contact insurance companies, and seek advice for urgent procedures.
It is advised to photograph damages, preserve damaged items until a surveyor can assess them, and keep receipts for repairs and urgent expenses. Compensation for extraordinary risks, such as floods, is covered by the Insurance Compensation Consortium if a valid policy is in place, and insurance must be contacted within 7 calendar days after the storm.
The City Council has activated a personalized support and technical assistance service for individuals, businesses, and industries affected. For severe incidents, municipal services can be contacted. The OMIC (Municipal Consumer Information Office) provides advice if insurers reject coverage or deem the assessment insufficient.
Concurrently, the Council is coordinating with the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of the Interior on direct aid lines for housing reconstruction, replacement of essential goods, and contingency funds for self-employed individuals and businesses.
The guide reminds that it is not necessary to wait for the official declaration of a zone severely affected by civil protection to report damages to the insurer or the Consortium.
