The incident, detected at Adif's control center in França station, has forced the stoppage of all trains due to unsafe circulation. This is the second time in a short period that a similar breakdown has occurred, as on July 25th the line already suffered an interruption due to similar circumstances.
The R3, which connects L’Hospitalet de Llobregat with Puigcerdà passing through cities such as Barcelona, Granollers, Vic, and Ripoll, is one of the lines most affected by the recurring incidents of the Catalan railway system. The line has experienced several cuts and delays since last October due to works, falling trees, and landslides.
The initially planned works have been delayed by various incidents, including the fall of a wall from a cement factory in Montcada on March 6th, which affected the tracks. Currently, the entire works are expected to be completed and the line fully operational by January 2027.
With circulation interrupted, alternative road services have been reinstated, similar to those implemented on July 25th. Before the general cuts began in October, the R3 transported approximately 20,000 passengers daily.
