Catalan company Saplex, specializing in the manufacture of garbage bags and food preservation products, has announced its largest investment to date: 11 million euros. These funds will be used to upgrade its factory in Canovelles (Vallès Oriental) and incorporate new machinery to increase production capacity. The goal is to meet the sustained growth in demand for its products.
The company acquired the Canovelles plant in 2024 and previously invested 8.1 million euros, of which 6.1 million were for new machinery. With this new financial injection, Saplex will have mobilized 27.3 million euros over the last three fiscal years to strengthen its industrial capacity, modernize processes, and prepare for future growth.
The investment follows a successful 2025 for the company, which closed the year with record revenue of 91.5 million euros and a pre-tax profit of 7.8 million. For 2026, the new capacities are expected to increase annual turnover by 5%. The company also plans to hire 13 new employees, bringing the total to 170, in line with the increased production capacity.
These investments will serve to consolidate Saplex's leadership in the Spanish market, where it already manufactures 55.5% of the garbage bags sold, a 1.5% increase from the previous year. Furthermore, the company is improving its position in Portugal, reaching a 20% market share, thanks to Mercadona's expansion in the country.
