“"Currently, one of the major difficulties in the healthcare system is that clinical information is distributed across heterogeneous systems, hindering information exchange. With OpenEHRCat, we want to explore how artificial intelligence can help us overcome these barriers, simplifying data integration processes and making it easier for professionals to access the information they need in a more agile and intuitive way."

The Granollers General Hospital has been recognized with one of the Innova C17 Awards for its OpenEHRCat project, an initiative that uses artificial intelligence to facilitate the exchange of clinical data between different computer systems.
The winning project, driven by the Directorate of Digital Transformation, proposes using artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate the exchange and consultation of clinical data between different incompatible computer systems. The goal is to address one of the challenges of healthcare digitalization: the difficulties in integrating and reusing clinical information between hospitals.
Led by Robert Garcia Rodrigo from the Data Area, the project plans to develop a proof of concept combining AI with the open standard OpenEHR. This standard establishes a common model for structuring clinical data, regardless of the managing computer system, thus facilitating interoperability.
The initiative will develop two tools: an AI agent to adapt clinical data to standardized models with human supervision, and an assistant to consult clinical information through natural language questions. The aim is to reduce technical complexity and facilitate access to information.
The Innova C17 Awards were created to foster innovation among the institutions of the C17 Network (Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Fundació Sanitària de Mollet, Fundació Privada Hospital Asil de Granollers, Fundació Hospital de Sant Celoni, Consorci Hospitalari de Vic, and Fundació Privada Hospital de Campdevànol). The two winning projects will receive financial aid of up to 12,500 euros each and an accompanying program.
The awards ceremony took place on October 24th, as part of the event ‘The future of medicine starts here. The New Clínic is NOW!’.
