The Mancomunitat of Martorelles and Santa Maria de Martorelles, which manages the new cemetery, will open a new space dedicated to gestational, perinatal, and neonatal grief next October. This area has been conceived as a place for remembrance, reflection, and tribute for families who have experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly after.
The official inauguration is scheduled for October 24th at 12:00 PM. Through this initiative, the Mancomunitat aims to offer a specific space where families can express their grief and keep the memory of their children alive.
To shape this commemorative space, the Mancomunitat has collaborated with local artist Carme Soto. Soto has handcrafted ceramic butterflies that will become one of the main symbolic elements of the site.
The butterfly, a symbol of transformation and change, represents the idea that life continues in another stage. Each butterfly aims to be a remembrance and a connection to the children who, despite their short existence, have left a significant mark on their families' lives.
Families who wish to do so will be able to hang one of these butterflies in the grief space as a token of remembrance and tribute, making each piece a personal symbol shared with other families who have gone through similar experiences.
