A forest fire in the Vall d’Infern area, Aiguamúrcia, has now burned over 100 hectares, prompting the confinement of residents in five municipalities across the Alt Camp and Alt Penedès regions.

The blaze, which started on Sunday afternoon, is burning intensely and advancing at approximately 2 kilometers per hour, with the potential to affect around 400 hectares. The Agents Rurals provisionally estimate that about 108 hectares of forest land have already been consumed across the municipalities of Aiguamúrcia and Querol (Alt Camp) and Pontons (Alt Penedès).
As a precautionary measure, approximately 2,500 people living in Aiguamúrcia, la Llacuna, Pontons, Querol, and Torrelles de Foix have been ordered to shelter in place. They have been advised to close doors and windows and avoid the affected area.
More than 200 personnel from the Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Firefighters) are engaged in extinguishing efforts, supported by 42 ground crews and 9 aerial units. Two large-capacity water-scooping aircraft have been requested from the Ministry for Ecological Transition to bolster resources.
The fire is moving northwest, having crossed the T-224 road, one of the planned containment lines. Aerial resources are prioritizing the left flank to halt its advance towards residential areas, while efforts on the right flank focus on secondary outbreaks. Work is also underway at the fire's rear to prevent further spread.
The Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service) has reported a complete closure of the T-244 road between Aiguamúrcia and Querol due to the fire. Firefighters do not expect to have the blaze under control by this evening, following three forest fires in Aiguamúrcia in just over a week.
