The summer main festival in Rodonyà will kick off tomorrow, Thursday, with a popular sardine feast in the Plaça Major and a fireworks display at midnight. This celebration, along with that of Farena, marks the end of the summer main festivals in the Alt Camp region.
On Friday, the day will begin with a table tennis tournament at the Cafè. At 6:00 PM, in front of the same establishment, the 38th edition of the Popular Race will start. In the evening, at 10:00 PM, the fire run will take place with the Marrà de Rodonyà and the Diables de Vilabella. The night will continue at the Plaça de la Farola with the 'Nit Jove' (Young Night), featuring Silver Monkeys and Akelarre, concluding with a tour of the town accompanied by the Xaranga Vermuxou.
On Saturday, the festival will focus on the most traditional events. At 11:00 AM, the procession of blessed bread will take place from the Cafè to the church, where a mass and the blessing of 'coques' (sweet breads) will be held at midday. After the service, the Cobla Ressò will perform a sardana concert at the Cafè. In the afternoon, the Rodonyà sports grounds will host the family Holi Festival. Music will continue at the Cafè with an afternoon dance featuring Duet Esquitx, including the traditional 'Ball del Fanalet', followed by the night dance.
On Sunday, the festival will continue with a mass in honor of Sant Joan Baptista, which will include a performance of the saint's 'gojos' (devotional songs). Afterwards, there will be a street parade with the Marrà de Rodonyà, the Gegants de Santes Creus (giants from Santes Creus), and the Gitanes de Bonastre (traditional figures from Bonastre). In the afternoon, the Rodonyà sports grounds will offer aquatic inflatables. At 8:00 PM, the Sala del Cafè will host a session of 'havaneres' (traditional Catalan sea shanties) with the group Son de l’Havana.
The main festival in Rodonyà will conclude on Monday, August 31st, with the traditional 'sopar de motxilla' (bring-your-own-food dinner) at the sports grounds.
