The works, which began in March, are nearing completion, allowing fans to watch competitions from a seated position. This improvement addresses a long-standing need, as spectators previously had to stand.
The new structure, 50 linear meters long and featuring three levels, has been built utilizing the existing embankment alongside the President Tarradellas promenade. Additionally, it will provide direct access to the sports area from the car park, facilitating user arrival. The grandstands are made of precast reinforced concrete on block walls.
“"The installation of the grandstand, with an investment of 140,334.94 euros, will mark the culmination of the athletics track, just as the facility celebrates 20 years since its inauguration after the comprehensive renovation that transformed it from a dirt track into «one of the best tracks in the province of Tarragona»."
This investment is part of a broader 1.4 million euro package that the Valls City Council will allocate to sports facilities during 2026. Planned actions include the renovation of the hockey rink, with a new grandstand for 206 spectators, and the replacement of the artificial turf at the Vilar football stadium. The fitness room at the Xavi Tondo pavilion will also be expanded, gaining 120 square meters and accommodating up to one hundred users.
