The Second Section of the Tarragona Provincial Court has issued a sentence imposing nine months in prison and a fine of 2,962 euros on a man arrested in Valls for drug trafficking. Despite the conviction, the individual will not have to enter prison thanks to an agreement reached between the prosecution and the defense.
The agreement stipulates the suspension of the prison sentence on the condition that the convicted person does not re-offend within a two-year period. Should he fail to comply, he would have to serve the full nine months in prison. This resolution took into account two significant mitigating factors in favor of the accused: the undue delay of the case, which was stalled for six years, and the fact that he was acting under the influence of drug addiction.
The events date back to January 15, 2016, when the accused was intercepted on Sant Isidre Street in Valls. He was carrying 90.7 grams of 92% pure cocaine, with an estimated value of 11,856 euros. Upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee and dispose of the drugs by throwing them to the ground, but he was apprehended on Sant Francesc Street, and the substance was recovered by officers.
