The session, jointly organized with Querqus Embalajes Sostenibles, brought together around thirty company representatives interested in understanding the practical implications of this regulation, which affects all materials and sectors. The regulation introduces novelties such as mandatory recyclability by grades, minimum percentages of recycled content, reuse targets, and restrictions on substances like PFAS.
The event was opened by Carles Solé, Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce of Valls. Subsequently, Carmen Urbano, General Director of Querqus, delivered the presentation "Context of EPR compliance and different roles". The meeting included a round table moderated by Ana Laín, Circular Economy Director at Querqus, with the participation of Carmen Urbano, Mariano Mestre (CEO of Centre de Gestió Mediambiental), and Raúl García (co-founder and Director of Innovation and Product at INÈDIT).
Experts discussed waste management, extended producer responsibility, and the ecomodulation of SCRAP fees based on packaging recyclability. It was highlighted that the tax on non-reusable plastic packaging stands at €0.45/kg of virgin plastic, and the regulation aims for 40% of transport packaging to be reusable by 2030, increasing to 70% by 2040.
Through this initiative, the Chamber of Commerce of Valls reaffirms its commitment to supporting local businesses in the challenges of digitalization, sustainability, and competitiveness, facilitating their adaptation to regulatory changes to maintain access to the European market.
