The Ecomuseu-Farinera in Castelló d'Empúries began the first phase of its comprehensive museography renovation this January 2026, a project set to update the museum's discourse after two decades.

This transformation, which started in January 2026, marks the first comprehensive intervention in the museum's museography in two decades, aiming to adapt the discourse to current cultural, social, and environmental challenges.
The initial phase of the works required the temporary relocation of part of the permanent collection pieces from the factory area. This exceptional measure, not seen in twenty years, ensures the correct conservation of the heritage elements during the intervention process.
The most visible change for visitors is the reorganization of the access and reception area. The historic main door has been musealized with a large-format photograph of the factory's former workers, evoking past labor activity.
Access to the museum has been moved to a secondary door, allowing the reception area to be remodeled. The new service counter, now located at the entrance, incorporates an accessible design for people with reduced mobility and visual impairment, completing the refurbishment of the lobby.
