Fishermen in Alt Empordà halt activity protesting excessive bureaucracy

The sector's paralysis is a response to the implementation of the Electronic Onboard Logbook (DEA), which complicates daily work.

The fishing sector in Alt Empordà paralyzed its activity this Monday, leaving many vessels docked in ports, protesting the excessive bureaucracy imposed by the new Electronic Onboard Logbook (DEA).

The decision to halt fishing was made after warnings the previous week about the complexity of the DEA were ignored. This administrative tool, mandatory for fishermen, has been criticized for significantly complicating daily management aboard the vessels.

This is not about rejecting control or technology. It is about common sense. It is about understanding that the sea is not an office.

The discontent of the primary sector, which is compared to that of farmers, is due to the accumulation of regulations that disregard the reality of working at sea and make daily operations unprofitable.
Fishing professionals warn that if their demands are not heard, the current silence in the ports could become a permanent situation, affecting the food supply chain and the health of the sector in the Alt Empordà region.
