The municipality in Alt Empordà has seen its historical ponds, which had been dry for a considerable time, become waterlogged again. This phenomenon occurs when precipitation levels exceed the normal range in the area.
“"In the town of El Far it occupies a hill very close to which had existed, until not long ago, two small ponds of reduced dimensions, which are easily formed when rainfall exceeds normality."
Historian Josep Matas documented the existence of these bodies of water in his book Els estanys eixuts (The Dry Ponds), recalling that "In the town of El Far it occupies a hill very close to which had existed, until not long ago, two small ponds of reduced dimensions".
According to Matas' description, the smaller of the ponds was known as l'estany de l'Oliva, located to the southwest. The other, larger in size (but not exceeding 15 'vessanes'—a local measurement), was located southeast of the village of El Far d'Empordà.
