The information commission of the Figueres City Council approved the project on Wednesday to restore the historic headquarters of the Casino Menestral Figuerenc, budgeted at 5.47 million euros, with works to be tendered after the public exhibition period.

The project, which has been pending for over 20 years, has an exact budget of 5,472,319.91 euros. Following a one-month public exhibition, final approval will allow the bidding process to begin. Construction is expected to start during the first half of 2026, coinciding with the 170th anniversary of the city's oldest cultural entity.
The rehabilitation will be divided into two phases. Phase one, valued at 2,633,592.57 euros, will focus on the central access core (streets Ample and Primfilat) and the establishment of the music school. Funding for this stage is covered by the Figueres City Council (€2 million) and the Diputació de Girona (€1 million).
Phase two, budgeted at 2,838,727.34 euros, will address the renovation of the theatre hall, the library (which houses the Ernest Lluch Library), the Atenea space, and classrooms. The project was drafted by municipal architects Joan Falgueras and Salvador Tarradas, along with industrial engineer Gabriel Sanvicens.

"it has been very exciting to be an active part of the renewal project for our headquarters, a building where every resident of Figueres has a piece of their heart involved. Above all, imagining when it is fully operational, with a bustle of people enthusiastic about culture entering and leaving and reviving the old quarter of the city."

Violeta Llueca · President of the Casino Menestral Figuerenc

"we had an open wound for more than twenty years in the heart of the city and closing it was the moral obligation of any municipal government. (...) The Casino is not just a building; it is a great history in itself."

Jordi Masquef · Mayor of Figueres
