A couple from Girona crashed their vehicle into an unlit scrap metal barricade on the AP-7 in Pontós on the morning of January 8, while urgently heading to Figueres Hospital due to a family emergency.

The incident occurred about ten minutes before four in the morning, coinciding with the first day of the AP-7 blockade by farmers protesting the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur.
The driver, a Mossos d'Esquadra officer, explained the urgent situation to the farmers: they needed to reach the hospital quickly because his partner's father was in critical condition. The farmers, according to his account, understood the request and allowed them to proceed.

"There was scrap metal scattered on the ground, in a completely dark area with no signage or people warning of the danger."

Upon impacting the barricade elements, the vehicle was severely damaged. Despite the minor injuries sustained by the woman, they managed to reach Figueres Hospital, where the car eventually started "smoking" and became completely unusable. The woman was able to say goodbye to her father, who passed away hours later. The following day, she was treated at the CUAP Güell for lumbar and cervical pain resulting from the accident.
