The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has activated a widespread extreme cold warning across almost all Catalan regions from this Tuesday until Wednesday morning, due to Storm Francis.

Storm Francis, which already brought snow to half of Catalonia on Monday, has caused a sharp drop in temperatures across the territory. The extreme cold warning remains active until at least Wednesday morning, with temperatures reaching -12.7 degrees in municipalities such as Das (Girona) and Prades (Tarragona).
This situation is explained by the entry of a very cold air mass originating from the Arctic, which is replacing the previous warmer air. This phenomenon is causing a drop of up to 10 degrees compared to previous days, accompanied by overcast skies and low-level snowfall.
The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) has also activated strong wind warnings, with gusts that could exceed 90 km/h, especially in the Pyrenean strip and along the coast, including Barcelonès and Baix Llobregat.
Furthermore, a warning for rough seas has been issued for the Empordà coast. The peak of the cold is expected between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, when an orange alert for low temperatures has been activated across almost the entire region.
