After a particularly turbulent meteorological week, Catalonia is heading into a weekend with clear skies but unsettled conditions. The Catalan Meteorological Service forecasts a new drop in temperatures accompanied by strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching 80 km/h.
In the Pyrenean regions, the alert is twofold. Warnings have been activated for intense snowfall expected between Friday and Sunday morning, especially in the Vall d’Aran, Pallars Sobirà, and Alta Ribagorça. Up to 10 centimeters of snow are expected to fall at altitudes of 900 meters.
These conditions, combined with the wind warnings, could cause strong squalls that hinder visibility and increase the risk of avalanches in the high mountains.
The temperature drop will be particularly noticeable starting on Saturday, with a decrease in both daytime highs and nighttime lows. In Barcelona, for instance, the mercury is estimated to drop by more than two degrees in a single day. Temperatures will continue to fall until Sunday noon, before beginning a slight recovery starting on Monday.
The Ventcat plan by Protecció Civil remains on alert. Wind gusts could exceed 72 km/h this Friday afternoon in areas such as Penedès, Camp de Tarragona, Central Catalonia, Alt Pirineu i Aran, and Ponent. On Saturday, wind warnings extend from Garraf to Montsià, passing through Urgell and Anoia.
