The Figueres Urban Guard incorporated two Taser electric guns into its equipment to enhance response capability and combat insecurity in the capital of Alt Empordà.

The decision to acquire these non-lethal defense tools is part of a broader plan to reinforce security in Figueres. Taser guns, officially known as Electronic Control Devices (ECD), allow for the temporary immobilization of dangerous individuals without causing permanent harm.

"Law and order are non-negotiable, and this incorporation is essential to guarantee the safety of our officers and the public."

This measure has generated debate, as the use of ECDs is subject to very strict protocols and specific training for the officers. The Urban Guard assures that they will only be used in situations of extreme necessity where there is imminent risk to life or physical integrity.
The main goal is to provide officers with more resources to manage high-tension situations, reducing the need to use conventional firearms. Figueres thus joins other Catalan municipalities that have already adopted this technology.
