Transport companies in Girona, represented by Asetrans, have urged the Government to take immediate action against the unauthorized traffic cuts on the AP-7 and N-II in the Empordà region, started this Thursday by farmers.

The director of the Girona Transport Association (Asetrans), Jordi Esparraguera, expressed his incomprehension regarding how these unauthorized demonstrations are permitted. Although the employers' association understands the reasons for the farmers' protest, he insists that “the road is not the only place to demonstrate”.

"The right to demonstrate is universal, but so is the right to circulation, and here it is not guaranteed."

The association showed its “anger at the political level”, focusing on the Minister of Agriculture, Òscar Ordeig. They reproach Ordeig for announcing that the blockade in Girona was authorized when it was not, and recall that they were previously offended when they were blamed for transmitting swine fever.
Despite the situation, Esparraguera thanked the rapid coordination with the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police), which helped prevent a “massive blockade” as in previous occasions, thanks to detours. Nevertheless, the employers' association is preparing a joint statement at the Catalan level to address the various mobilizations affecting the territory.
