The Metges de Catalunya union described as unfair this Tuesday the criticisms made by the Deputy Mayor of Figueres, Carme Martínez, against Doctor Àlex Cervera regarding his professional opinions.

The controversy broke out during the municipal plenary session on February 5th, when Deputy Mayor Carme Martínez harshly criticized an interview with Doctor Àlex Cervera in the newspaper Empordà. In that interview, the doctor questioned the current emergency model in Figueres.

"Criticism of a healthcare model cannot and must not be used to personally attack the professionals who question it."

Metges de Catalunya points out that labor dissatisfaction with the PAC (Continuous Care Point) model at the Figueres Hospital has persisted since 2009. The union advocates for a model led by Primary Care and located outside the hospital environment.
The organization regrets that the Figueres City Council has chosen personal disqualification instead of opening a rigorous debate on the future of the healthcare system in the Alt Empordà region.
