Firefighters extinguished a fire in an apartment on Carrer Tapis in Figueres this Thursday afternoon, forcing the precautionary evacuation of the entire building.

Firefighters responded to the third floor of number 53 on Carrer Tapis. Municipal sources confirmed that this was the same dwelling that had previously suffered a fire on the morning of December 31.
Although the fire caused no injuries, as the apartment was empty, the municipal architect ordered the evacuation of the entire building as a precautionary measure. The displaced residents have since been rehoused.
In addition to the directly affected apartment, smoke also damaged the fourth floor of the building, according to the Figueres City Council. Following the inspection, the main access door, four apartments, and the rooftop storage rooms were sealed.
It should be noted that the previous incident on December 31 was much more serious, resulting in six injuries. One victim, with significant burns, was transferred to Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, and another suffered a leg fracture while attempting to escape.
