Twenty people have drowned in Catalonia since the start of the swimming campaign on June 15, with six minors among the victims.

The swimming campaign by Protecció Civil in Catalonia, which began on June 15 and will run until September 15, has registered a tragic toll in its first month. A total of 20 people have lost their lives by drowning: 11 at beaches, six in swimming pools, and three in inland waters. Six of the victims were minors, including two twins who drowned in the Ter river in Manlleu.
These figures represent an increase of five deaths compared to the first month of the previous year's campaign (2025), with a notable rise in deaths in swimming pools and inland water areas such as rivers and reservoirs. In light of this situation, Protecció Civil urges extreme caution, especially during a summer marked by high temperatures that increase attendance at aquatic areas.
Regarding Catalan beaches, 11 deaths have been recorded between June 15 and July 15, the same figure as last year. Nine of these incidents occurred on the Costa Daurada, while the remaining two were on the central coast and the Costa Brava. Of the total beach victims, 10 were men and one woman, with three minors, four adults, and four individuals over 65. Additionally, 19 people were injured by drowning, five of whom were transferred in critical condition and two later died.
Swimming pools have recorded six deaths, double that of last year, with five in private pools and one in a public pool. The victims included one minor and five adults, three of whom were over 65. As for inland waters, three fatalities have been reported: a 74-year-old man at the Sant Antoni reservoir (municipality of Conca de Dalt, in Pallars Jussà) and two 11-year-old children in the Ter river in Manlleu (Osona).
