Despite heavy rain, farmers are maintaining their protest on the AP-7 highway in Pontós (Alt Empordà) on January 9, 2026, using shelters constructed from straw bales for protection.

The rain challenged the mobilization, forcing over a hundred people to take refuge under the improvised structures of straw bales and canvas they erected in the middle of the road. These shelters have served both for spending the night and for protection from the water during the day.
The demonstrators had to pack away tables, pots, and stoves to keep them dry, but this has not diminished their resolve. Organizers have called on citizens to join the blockade, reinforcing the idea that the mobilization will continue indefinitely.

We will not leave until the Mercosur agreement is revoked, regardless of the weather.

The persistent closure of the AP-7 continues to cause severe traffic disruption in the area. Concurrently, vehicle accumulation is increasing on the N-II, as restrictions only allow cars to circulate on this alternative route.
