Expansion works on the ambulance services building in Castelló d'Empúries are now underway. The project, situated in the Mas Nou sector at the entrance to Empuriabrava, aims to adapt the facilities to current needs and improve the operational conditions for emergency teams.
During the construction period, the medical units will be temporarily relocated to municipal modules set up in the Castelló Nou area. This relocation ensures the uninterrupted continuity of the emergency service. Once the works are completed, the base will move back to the expanded building in the Mas Nou sector.
“"This is a very important step forward for our municipality. Having two ambulances available 24 hours a day, one of them a medicalized unit, clearly improves emergency response."
Mayor Anna Massot highlighted the significance of this improvement for the municipality, emphasizing that the increased healthcare resources enhance safety and response capacity, particularly given the population fluctuations throughout the year.
“"This expansion allows us to have better-prepared emergency services with more resources to attend to the population."
For her part, Councillor for Health, Laura Guerrero, positively assessed the initiative, noting that the expansion will provide better-equipped emergency services with greater resources for the community.
These actions are part of Catalonia's new Emergency Medical Service (SEM) model, which includes a 20% increase in ambulances and the hiring of over 600 professionals, representing a total investment of nearly 2 billion euros to improve healthcare services across the region.
