Bàscara Town Council has been ordered to pay 185,167.80 euros, plus interest, for legal services contracted in 2013 concerning the Orriols industrial estate.

A new judicial resolution requires the council of Bàscara to pay 185,167.80 euros, plus interest from the last three years. The ruling, announced on June 19th, partially upholds a claim for lawyer's fees filed against the council, reducing the period of interest initially sought.
The events date back to January 2013, when work related to the Orriols industrial estate was awarded through mayoral decrees. The initial claim was for the same amount, but the Town Council considered the contracts and fees irregular and excessive, initiating legal proceedings to adjust the sum.
The municipal government believes the current financial situation does not allow for this payment, which adds to the existing 1.8 million euro debt for the same industrial estate. Consequently, an appeal will be filed against the ruling, despite acknowledging limited chances of success.
This debt stems from an agreement in 2008 for the development of the industrial estate, which has led to lengthy legal disputes. The Town Council hopes to clear the expense by auctioning off the estate's land, which currently carries a debt of 1.4 million euros.
The financial burden significantly limits municipal action. The mayor has highlighted previous years' payments and projections for the upcoming fiscal year, noting that the municipality operates with a budget of 1.4 million euros.
