The event will take place at 6 PM in the Capella de Santa Clara and is part of the opening ceremonies of the XXXIV Terra de Trobadors Festival. It is included in the "Miquel Pujol Canelles" Conference Cycle, organized by the Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos of the Ajuntament de Castelló d’Empúries with the collaboration of the Institut de Llengua i Cultura Catalanes of the Universitat de Girona.
The book, titled 'De Castelló d’Empúries al Regne de Nàpols. La trajectòria vital de Guillem Escarrer (c. 1266-1321)', is the fourth volume in the "Estudis Medievals" collection published by the Centre d’Estudis Trobadorescos and the Museu d’Història Medieval de la Cúria-Presó, s. XIV. The presentation will be led by Josep Maria Gironella, Councilor for Culture and Historical Heritage, and the author.
Elvis Mallorquí Garcia (Riudellots de la Selva, 1971) holds a doctorate in Medieval History from the Universitat de Girona. He has published various works on local history and studies on toponymy, landscape, and historical routes in the Girona region. In 2023, the Ajuntament de Castelló d’Empúries published his study on the demolition of the count's castle in that town.
Guillem Escarrer (c. 1266-1321), son of merchants, achieved a notable social and political position. He served as consul of his hometown, procurator for the counts of Empúries, and general bailiff of Catalonia. He collaborated with King Jaume II on various missions, including the Battle of Cape Orlando and the expedition against Almería. His diplomatic missions led him to serve King Robert d’Anjou of Naples, governing Rome as senator. His violent death in Italy marked the end of a significant career in the 14th-century Mediterranean.
